Data Protection Officer for Germany and Head of the European Data Protection Team Timo Ahland studied law at Ruhr University Bochum and the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer. He is admitted to the bar by the Koblenz Higher Regional Court. Prior to his current role as Data Protection Officer, he spent six years as a corporate lawyer, specializing in advising the global corporate procurement and IT departments of the Boehringer Ingelheim Group. Timo Ahland has served as the appointed in-house Data Protection Officer and external Data Protection Officer for the operating companies of the Boehringer Ingelheim Group in Germany (approx. 15,000 employees) and, together with his team supporting the Group Data Protection Officer, oversees the European region with a network of currently approx. 25 regional and local data protection officers and experts. He represents the company in data protection matters before numerous associations at the national level (BDI, VCI, BAVC, and vfa). He regularly serves as a speaker at professional and continuing education events on data protection, with a focus on medical research and drug development.
